Advice on how to find a car cheap?

A friend of mine needs a car to get to and from work. His girlfriend has a disability and can't work. The guy has been working regularly for a month and a half but has bad credit because he had been out of work for a couple of years before and was having a really hard time. He now makes just above minimum wage and works full time. There is no public transportation to his place of work, it's too far to walk and too cold and often too icy to bike. For the moment I've been giving him rides but I can't keep up with this. Renting a car is too expensive, the taxi is outrageously expensive and he doesn't have a co-worker who could give him a lift. It's out of the question to change jobs in the precarious job market of today. He doesn't know anything about fixing up a car. Anybody got an idea on how to find a car cheap? Tell him to look for police auctions in or around his city. Every car that is impounded is sold at almost a steal, and sometimes, there are some nice, almost luxourious vehicle for under 5,000$. Most cars at poliuce auctions go for around 1500$-3000$, or sometimes, even under 1000$. police auctions are the way to go if you ask me.

Or he can even buy a used police car off of ebay motors. Police Cars are Really Reliable, and have aftermarket parts in them, and if they do break down, or something on the car is broken, the parts are some of the cheapest an the market to fix, because every police agency in the US has to use them, and need them cheap. Used Police Cars go for around 2500$-6500$ for a gently used one. Hope this HelpedAdvice on how to find a car cheap?
Maybe he should try and save up and go to an Auto Auction. Or go to autotrader.com and make sure you put the Maximum you would pay for the car, I did that to find my car for $1, 800 Kia. Oh and Kia's usually are cheap cars. Good Luck!
